A productive womenswear showroom visit ends with a clear shortlist and recorded questions. Before you visit, share your customer, collection categories, quality direction and target dates. During the visit, record garment references and the features that matter to your range. Afterwards, confirm which styles need availability checks, modifications or further development.

Prepare a focused buying brief

Bring a compact brief that explains the range rather than a large folder of unrelated inspiration. Include your selling market, season, category priorities, size direction and estimated quantities. If your collection has a retail-price position, discuss how that translates into the garment and purchasing requirements.

Separate must-have features from preferences. For a dress, the silhouette and target length may be fixed while the embroidery direction is open. For a matching set, the combination may be fixed while the fabric needs discussion. This helps the team show relevant options.

Use a shortlist sheet

Record Example of a useful note
Garment reference Supplier reference plus a permitted full-garment photograph
Collection role Core shirt, statement dress or coordinated separate
Feature to keep Shoulder line, sleeve volume, drape or trim direction
Change to discuss Length, colour, fabric or branding requirement
Order questions Units by colour, size breakdown, availability and target date

Look beyond the first impression

Compare garments in the same category. Examine fabric handle, weight and opacity, then review seams, closures, lining and decorative placement. A beautiful display may provide inspiration, but you still need an agreed sample and specification for your own order.

Ask before photographing and keep a reference with each image. A close-up without a garment reference is difficult to use later. If two garments look similar, note the difference that affects your decision rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Do not confuse the showroom with stock availability

A showroom garment may be a design reference or development sample. Confirm whether the selected style is available, made to order or subject to modifications. Ask about material, colour, size and quantity requirements for your proposed order. A displayed collection scale is not a statement that all displayed garments can ship immediately.
