A social fashion trend becomes useful for development when you can describe the garment features behind it. Translate the reference into silhouette, fabric behaviour, construction and the customer's use. A video's views or likes show attention on that platform; they do not establish demand for your own range or prove that a particular design will sell.

Separate the visual hook from the garment

A clip may attract attention because of styling, movement, lighting, a creator or an unexpected detail. Identify what interests you before adding it to a design board. Is it the sleeve volume, embroidery placement, matching-set idea or colour direction? Record the feature in words, then connect it to your customer.

Turn a saved reference into a development note

Social observation Useful design question What to put in the brief
A flowing dress in movement Which volume and drape create the effect? Silhouette, intended length and material behaviour
A close-up of embroidery Where does the decoration sit on the whole garment? Placement, scale and finishing expectations
A coordinated set Can the pieces also work separately? Proportions and the collection role of each piece
A colour-led look Does the shade fit your range and market? A considered colour reference, not a screenshot alone

Check relevance beyond engagement

Compare the idea with your own customer feedback, sales experience and planned assortment. Notice whether responses discuss the garment itself or only the styling. A popular clip may appeal to viewers who are not your customers. Treat it as a prompt for exploration, then use your own evidence to decide what belongs in the collection.

Keep the date and source with the reference. If several saved clips communicate the same idea, use the clearest one and remove redundant references. A smaller board with specific notes is easier to discuss than a large board of repeated looks.

Build your own design direction

Use references to communicate an aesthetic or garment feature, not to instruct a copy of another brand's protected work. Bring together your own customer, silhouette, material and detail decisions. If ownership or permissions are uncertain, resolve them before asking for exact replication.

Use full-garment and detail views together

Close-ups show texture; full-garment views show proportion. Movement helps explain drape, while still photographs help identify a precise feature. Ask which additional views are needed for the discussion. Social media content does not provide a finished tech pack or sample specification.

Prepare a brief for JH

  • Reference URL and the specific feature that interests you
  • Your own design notes and requested differences
  • Customer, market and category
  • Material, size and fit direction
  • Estimated quantities and target date

Explore JH's TikTok collection content alongside the style gallery. Then choose whether you want to adapt a JH style or discuss original development through Custom Services.

Platform context: TikTok's B2B playbook discusses business discovery on the platform. It does not establish demand for any individual JH garment.
